Defense Department hopes to draw Gen Z as military numbers and qualifications reach the lowest levels in 80 years.
The Pentagon has issued a “National Call of Service” aimed at Generation Z, those born between 1997 and 2012, as America’s military forces near 2024 with the smallest size and lowest qualification levels in nearly eight decades. Entry-level personnel reporting for active duty have reached a low not seen since the early 1940s, in the period just prior to the United States entering World War II.
According to Acting Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, Ashish Vazirani, a wide disconnect exists between the military establishment and younger generations of Americans. As a result, the services have lowered some of the criteria for recruitment.
Acting Undersecretary Vazirani said, “We must reach today’s youth where they are with a message that resonates with them and motivates them to act.” He added that national leaders and politicians should also take up the “national call to service.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Defense Secretary Austin and Pentagon officials as they seek to increase interest in military enlistment.
- For the recruiters of the military branches as they seek personnel for the U.S. Armed Forces.
